Story Turns Theater

Workshops for Youth

Play the Story

Theatrical creation around narrative texts: working on changing identities and alternating perspectives within the story; exploring the tensions between the narrative text, the one told on stage, and the dramatic action presented on stage; constructing the tangible world—the place and time of the story—and the transformations between the evolving worlds throughout the plot development.

Object Transformations

Through working with imaginary and real objects, we will collectively build narrative worlds. How can we embody components of an imaginary world through an object? The prop in narrative theater is a dynamic symbol. Anything can represent everything, and the flexibility of using objects creates a unique form of communication, a kind of ‘contract’ of imaginative partnership between the players and with the audience.

Character Exploration in Storytelling Theater

“How does man communicate himself?” –
We will delve into fascinating questions related to personal identity, character, relationships between the actor and the character, the presence of the actor within the character, and the complex connection between them. We will learn theatrical gesture techniques (inspired by Brecht), nuanced work on character, psycho-physical characteristics, and together clarify the role of the character in the context of a social situation.

Story in Rhythm

In this unique workshop, we will play with words: exploring speech rhythms and the wonder of shared dialogue. Participants will experience group dialogue, rhythmic dialogue, develop awareness of the intonations of the narrative text, and the compositions of speech.

Shared dialogue within rhythmic patterns allows for expansive and empowering personal expression, inviting mutual listening, collaboration, initiative, acceptance of others, and providing a sense of support and security for each participant.
