Each performance of Neighborhood Tales is dedicated to a new neighborhood. The actors invite the residents to share their memories, their personal biographies and family histories, to tell stories about public matters or private ones, about neighborhood of all sorts, about getting together and about saying goodbyes, to share their jokes, their recipes, to lodge their complaints, to confess their dreams… All of these form a colorful mosaic of stories that emerges in the evening of the performance – a performance entirely by and for the neighborhood community.
On November 26, 2023, the actors of the theater group invited the residents of the Mishor Hagafen neighborhood, Ofakim, the neighborhood where the massacres took place on October 7, for a gathering of storytelling.
The encounter opened with questions: Where were you when it started? Where did you run to? Who did you write or call? Who were you worried about? What did you feel?
From this starting point, the stories began to unfold – sights, sounds and emotions from the Black Sabbath – unbearable events, moments of terror, panic, desperation and helplessness; along with moving revelations of solidarity, stories of heroism and spiritual transcendence in which the human spirit was revealed in all its splendor, complexity and depth.
From all of these, the group of performers created a mosaic of stories and presented it during the evening with the musical accompaniment of three musicians, who played the hidden layer beneath the words. A theatrical event that strives to give an outlet, expression and strength to a community that has undergone an unimaginable disaster.
The event was held at the initiative of the welfare department of the municipality of Ofakim, and with the support of the ‘The Joint’ & ‘Natan Worldwide Disaster Relief ‘.
